Primarily established to promote women in the field of mission work, the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of these modern times has evolved to recognize, encourage, and support all women in mission efforts and spiritual growth wherever needed.

Wednesdays

10:00 am:  Holy Eucharist & Litany of Healing

11:00 am:  Bible Study

12:00 noon:  Lunch

St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church invites all women to be a part of the active ECW. This dedicated group comes together each week to worship, pray, and participate in Bible study. The scheduled time for gathering each Wednesday is at 10:00 am. The ECW receives Holy Eucharist and Unction in the Chapel, followed by coffee and a study time. The studies are varied and offer lively conversation, wide-ranging viewpoints, and thought provoking ideas. For those who are interested, several in the group usually continue the fellowship by meeting for lunch at one of the restaurants in town. Occasionally, the ECW will have a salad luncheon in the Parish Hall, rather than eating out.

St. Matthew’s ECW promotes and participates in several projects throughout the church year.

  • A silent auction is held annually each January with all proceeds designated to cover half the cost of camp fees for those children and youth who attend the Episcopal summer camp.
  • Special events may be hosted by the ECW throughout the year. Baby showers, covered dish luncheons, graduation luncheons, bereavement luncheons, & Christmas baskets, etc., are just some of the activities that the group may host or oversee.

"They all joined together constantly in prayer”

(Acts 1:14, NIV).¹

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests” (Ephesians 6:18).

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6–7).

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful” (Colossians 4:2).

¹The New International Version Study Bible, NIV. Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1985

In short, the ECW is continually focused on assisting in many areas of the church that needs volunteers.

Prayer remains the steadfast commitment of the ECW each week during the Wednesday Litany of Healing.   Prayer is offered up for the sick, the needy, those burdened with difficult issues, family & friends who travel, and other personal requests. The ECW continually prays for local, national, and world concerns. Group prayer also presents the opportunity for the ECW to offer thanksgiving for the many blessing received during the past week.

Every woman in the church is a member of the “ECW” organization. If you are looking for an active and lively group to participate in at St. Matthew’s, this could be your answer. ECW offers the opportunity for weekly Holy Unction & Communion, in-depth Bible study, and open conversation, all in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Please join the ECW as the group continually grows in the spirit and works toward ministry in the church, community and the world.
